On Wednesday evening, January 3, 2024, the Fredericksburg Police Department Criminal Investigations Division successfully located and apprehended the suspect involved in the homicide and robbery at the Kwikcheck convenience store on Tuesday night.
Following information received through Crimestoppers Tips and phone calls, Fredericksburg Police Detectives, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, obtained both an arrest warrant and a search warrant for the suspect believed to be staying at a local motel.
At approximately 11:46 PM, Fredericksburg Police Officers executed the warrants, taking the suspect, identified as Awes Singko Rapet, a 21-year-old Asian male, into custody without incident. During the operation, evidence related to the commission of the crime was successfully recovered.
Rapet now faces charges of Capital Murder and is being held at the Gillespie County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
The Fredericksburg Police Department extends its gratitude to the community for their active involvement in providing crucial information that led to the positive identification of the suspect and determination of his whereabouts.
