San Antonio Roadway Reconstruction Brings Temporary Closures to Lower Broadway

Starting Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and continuing through March 2024, portions of Lower Broadway will experience closures for essential roadway reconstruction. The affected areas are as follows:

  1. Broadway from Pecan Street to 4th Street, including the intersections of Broadway & Pecan Street and Broadway & 3rd Street.
  2. Broadway from McCullough Avenue to 6th Street, including the intersection of Broadway & McCullough Avenue.

During this period, the following intersections will remain open for both eastbound and westbound traffic:

  • Broadway & 4th Street
  • Broadway & 6th Street
  • Broadway & Brooklyn Avenue

Previous closures along Broadway, from Brooklyn Avenue to 6th Street, and Broadway from McCullough Avenue to 4th Street, have been reopened to traffic. However, ongoing sidewalk work is still in progress in these sections.

The phased closures are carefully coordinated to ensure continued access to all businesses along and in proximity to the Lower Broadway corridor, either via Broadway or its adjacent side streets. Detour routes will be clearly marked with signage to guide drivers.

Two closures on 9th Street, which were shut down earlier, have been reopened since December 13, 2023 – Broadway to North Alamo and Broadway to Avenue B. Additionally, the Avenue B/North Alamo Bike Lanes were unveiled to the public on December 5, 2023.

The current construction activities on Broadway are part of a larger 2017 bond project, slated for completion in Summer 2024. For more information about the ongoing project and to receive updates, interested individuals can visit SASpeakUp.com/LowerBroadway.
