Bexar County Judge Sakai Highlights Successful First Year and Key Initiatives for 2023

Judge Sakai

In a year-end newsletter, Bexar County Judge Sakai reflected on a successful first year, marked by significant achievements aimed at improving the lives of the county's two million residents.

Key among these accomplishments is the facilitation of major economic deals set to bring substantial benefits to the region. Notably, JCB, a global manufacturer specializing in agricultural and construction equipment, has chosen San Antonio's Southside for its new facility. This development is expected to generate 1,500 manufacturing jobs and deliver a projected economic impact of $30 billion over the next decade. Construction on the facility is scheduled to commence in early 2024.

Additionally, Industrial Commercial Properties (ICP) has secured a contract for the revitalization of the former Windsor Park Mall and Rackspace location on the east side. This mixed-use development, featuring retail and light industrial components, is anticipated to breathe new life into the area and provide job opportunities for Bexar County residents.

Judge Sakai emphasized the county's commitment to addressing various community needs, including bridging the digital divide, enhancing public safety, improving public health services, reducing jail overtime, and expanding green spaces. The recently approved nearly $3 billion budget is poised to support these initiatives, positioning Bexar County as a premier place to live, work, and play.

As Judge Sakai expressed gratitude for the continued support of the community, he wished residents "Happy Holidays and Happy New Year." The county looks forward to building on the successes of 2023 and furthering its mission to create a thriving and inclusive community for all.
