Suspect Arrested in Connection with Series of Burglaries in Far East Bexar County

Darron Hunter, 51, was taken into custody on December 27, 2023, on three warrants related to the burglary of buildings with intent to commit theft, classified as state jail felonies.

The arrest follows an investigation linking Hunter to four recent burglaries targeting businesses along Highway 87 just outside of China Grove in Far East Bexar County, including one in St. Hedwig. All incidents occurred earlier this month.

Investigators discovered that Hunter forcibly entered the businesses, making off with cash boxes and store registers. Video footage depicted an individual donned in a mask, dark-colored clothing, and a headlamp, posing challenges for authorities in identifying the suspect.

Despite the initial hurdles, diligent work by criminal investigators led to the identification and location of Darron Hunter. The homeless individual was found residing near the intersection of US Highway 87 and Loop 106. A search warrant was obtained after Hunter refused deputies' permission to inspect his tent. Upon execution of the warrant, authorities uncovered clothing and the headlamp matching those worn by the suspect in the surveillance videos.

Darron Hunter now faces three counts of burglary of a building and has been booked into the Bexar County Jail. His total bond is set at $105,000.00.
