Body Found in Remote Area in Bexar County Identified as Missing San Marcos Resident

Victim: Pete Gonzales Eguia

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) has confirmed the identity of a body discovered on Escondida Road in far Northwest Bexar County last weekend. The discovery was made after BCSO received a call around 10:30 a.m. on December 9, 2023, reporting a body in the 10000 block of Escondida Road near Scenic Loop.

According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, a driver initially noticed a single shoe on the road and, upon investigation, found the body off the roadway. The deceased, identified as Pete Gonzales Eguia, 51, a resident of San Marcos, had been reported missing late last month. Eguia's body exhibited signs of slight decomposition and evidence of dragging, with trauma to his upper body, as noted by Sheriff Salazar.

Earlier in the week, on December 7, Eguia's vehicle was located in the 14000 block of Apache Camp with front-end damage. Neighbors had last seen Eguia's vehicle on November 30. Concerned family members, after an unsuccessful welfare check, reported him missing to the police.

Eguia's obituary revealed that he was born in Dallas, later moving to Luling in 2016, and finally settling in San Marcos in 2022. The BCSO has taken over the homicide investigation into Eguia's death.

Sheriff Salazar is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact BCSO at 210-335-6000 or email them at bcsotips@bexar.org.
