San Antonio Man Convicted of Illegal Firearm Possession After Violent Shooting Incidents

A federal jury in San Antonio has found 25-year-old Dylan James Rivas guilty of illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Rivas, previously convicted of Aggravated Robbery in Bexar County in 2017, unlawfully had a firearm during a five-day period in April 2020.

Court documents and trial evidence revealed that on April 13, 2020, Rivas assaulted his girlfriend, pistol-whipping her with the firearm, and later shot at her parents' house early the next morning. Subsequently, on April 17, 2020, Rivas shot another individual during an argument. The same day, San Antonio Police Department detectives apprehended Rivas after he left a residence on the city's west side. Inside the house, they recovered the Glock 9mm caliber pistol used in the shootings.

Rivas has been convicted of one count of felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. He is currently in federal custody and will await sentencing on March 13, 2024. The case was investigated by the ATF and the San Antonio Police Department.
