Gillespie County Sheriff Buddy Mills proudly announces the success of the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office in passing a surprise audit conducted by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS). The TCJS recently implemented changes in its inspection procedures, shifting from an annual process to a risk-based program as mandated by HB 1545.
Under the new approach, jails that consistently meet compliance standards receive limited compliance reviews, while those in non-compliance face more thorough inspections. The audit covers various aspects, including turnover rate, prior inspections, changes in administration, past non-compliance, classification, medical, licensing and training, security, and more.
The Gillespie County Jail, operational since 2015, has successfully passed inspection for the eighth consecutive year. With a capacity to house up to 96 inmates, the facility has consistently demonstrated adherence to TCJS standards.
On December 6, 2023, the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office received notification of the positive outcome of the compliance review. TCJS Jail Inspector expressed gratitude for the diligent work of the GCSO and commended them for their commitment to maintaining high standards.
Sheriff Mills and jail administrator Lt. John Robinson extend their appreciation to the dedicated Gillespie County Jail staff, recognizing their tireless efforts in ensuring the facility remains in excellent condition.
