The Boerne Independent School District Board of Trustees has unanimously named Dr. Kristin Craft as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Boerne ISD. The decision was made during a special meeting on November 15th. Per legal requirements, the Board will wait for 21 days before officially voting to hire Dr. Craft as the new Superintendent, who is slated to replace the retiring Dr. Thomas Price at the end of the year.
Dr. Craft, with over 28 years of experience in education, currently serves as the Associate Superintendent of Academics and Chief Academic Officer in Spring Branch ISD since 2018. If officially approved, she will make history as the first female Superintendent in the Boerne ISD.
Having spent two decades in district leadership roles and 12 years as a principal, Dr. Craft has worked at every level, from elementary to high school. Carlin Friar, President of the BISD Board of Trustees, expressed excitement about Dr. Craft's selection, highlighting her role in Spring Branch ISD's academic achievements, her contribution to closing learning gaps post-pandemic, and her efforts in enhancing career and technical education.
The decision to select Dr. Craft was informed by an online community survey and input from in-person meetings with community members. President Friar emphasized the importance of finding a leader who would build on the successes of Boerne ISD while maintaining the community's cherished small-town atmosphere.
During her tenure at Spring Branch ISD, Dr. Craft played a key role in the district earning a finalist award for the HEB Excellence in Education Best Large School District in 2023. She also led the district to exceed state and regional benchmarks in college readiness indicators, including AP/IB results, OnRamps course credits, and SAT/ACT results in 2021 and 2022.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Dr. Craft stated, "I am deeply honored for the opportunity to join the Boerne ISD family and serve as your Superintendent of Schools." She looks forward to bringing her dedication to positive learning environments and strong academic outcomes to the Boerne community.
The Board is scheduled to officially vote on Dr. Craft's appointment on December 7th. Upon assuming her role in January 2024, Dr. Price will transition to Superintendent Emeritus, serving as an advisor until his retirement at the end of the year.
