On November 22, 2023, around 12:00 PM, Victoria Police Department (VPD) officers initiated a routine traffic stop in the vicinity of the 900 block of Ball Airport Road. The situation took a tragic turn when an occupant of the vehicle reportedly shot himself with a handgun while still inside.

Responding to the incident, Victoria Fire-EMS provided immediate care at the scene. The individual was then transported to a local hospital, where, he succumbed to the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Medical professionals pronounced the individual deceased.

The Texas Rangers have taken charge of a joint investigation.
