In response to the burgeoning needs of the rapidly growing community, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System has announced a comprehensive expansion plan for its Westover Hills campus.
The ongoing construction at the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills campus includes the imminent completion of an enlarged emergency department. Set to conclude in January 2024, the project encompasses 16 additional private treatment rooms, seven fast track bays for more efficient handling of less emergent cases, and integrated CT, X-ray, and lab services. The expansion aims to equip the clinical teams to meet the rising demand for emergent healthcare services.
"With the ever-growing population of San Antonio’s west side, our patient base continues to expand," remarked Patricia Burns, President of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. "This newly expanded emergency department will ensure we are supporting the needs of our growing neighboring communities."
Simultaneously, construction is underway for a new four-story tower adjacent to the hospital. Anticipated to be completed in early 2025, the tower will significantly augment the hospital's services, featuring modern designs, spacious rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, and cutting-edge technology. This expansion will add over 100 new private patient beds, extending obstetric, neonatal, and adult intensive care services.
Greg Kowalski, President and CEO of The RK Group, and his wife, Bekki, pledged a substantial $1 million to support the maternal fetal care program expansion, emphasizing their commitment to advancing healthcare in south Texas.
Plans are also in motion for the construction of a fourth medical plaza in 2024, housing an ambulatory surgical center to address the growing demand for outpatient surgical services. The plaza will also host additional physician offices and outpatient services, strategically located across from the main entrance of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills.
"We are excited for these incredible new additions to our hospital campus," Burns said. "This expansion will allow us to better meet the health care needs of an entire family and keep care close to where our patients live."
The expansion aligns with the hospital's commitment to providing innovative, high-quality healthcare to the community. Grant Wicklund, CEO for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, emphasized that meeting the needs of the community remains their top priority, with the expansion creating capacity to continue delivering exceptional healthcare in fulfillment of their mission.
