On Halloween, three suspects entered a department store at a popular north side shopping mall in San Antonio, sparking the attention of the store's asset protection officers as they began accumulating a large quantity of expensive apparel without making any purchases. The situation escalated when the suspects tried to exit the store without paying for the merchandise.
As the suspects approached the store's exit, they were confronted by the vigilant asset protection officers. One of the suspects, an unidentified female, attempted to flee on foot. Meanwhile, the individual identified as 53-year-old Edwardo Sanchez Jr engaged in a physical struggle with two asset protection officers who were trying to detain him. During this altercation, Sanchez pulled out a handgun and shot one of the officers in the leg before making a hasty escape from the scene. The third suspect, also unidentified, fled through a different exit.
Subsequently, the San Antonio Police Department's Robbery Task Force Unit detectives initiated an investigation into the incident. Through their investigative techniques, they were able to identify Edwardo Sanchez Jr as the suspect responsible for the robbery at gunpoint. Three arrest warrants were obtained for his apprehension.
In the early hours of November 3, 2023, the San Antonio Police Department's Covert Unit officers and detectives acted on tips from the public and acquired additional information that led to the arrest of Edwardo Sanchez Jr. The arrest was conducted without incident. Following his apprehension, Sanchez was taken to the Robbery Unit office for questioning about his involvement in the Halloween robbery. He confessed to the crime and was subsequently booked on three counts of Aggravated Robbery.
The collaborative efforts of detectives and officers assigned to the Robbery Task Force and Covert Units culminated in the apprehension of this violent felon, Edwardo Sanchez Jr.
