City of Seguin Wins $75,000 to Revitalize Park Through NRPA and Niagara Bottling Collaboration

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Niagara Bottling recently announced the 2023 recipients of their Perk Your Park Project grants. After a nationwide call for entries and selection of nine finalists, the greater Atlanta, San Antonio, and Los Angeles areas will receive $75,000 each to improve parks in their communities.

The grants will fund renovations at Fowler Field Park in Douglasville, Georgia, Max Starcke Park in Seguin, Texas, and Las Flores Park in La Verne, California. Planned improvements include adding a rain garden, upgrading storm drainage, and enhancing accessibility and sensory play spaces.

Since 2016, the Perk Your Park Project has helped reinvigorate 17 parks across the U.S. by supporting upgrades and increased access in under-resourced neighborhoods. The collaboration between NRPA and Niagara Bottling aims to encourage healthy lifestyles by enhancing vibrant, family-friendly outdoor recreation spaces.

“At Niagara, giving back to communities is central to our mission,” said Ann Canela, Niagara’s director of corporate giving. “The Perk Your Park Project allows us to renew cherished local parks so more children and families can enjoy them.”

This year's winning parks were selected through immense community participation, with over 80,000 online submissions counted. The support of local residents was crucial to making the 2023 Perk Your Park Project a success.
