On the evening of October 19, 2023, the Seguin Police Department's Criminal Apprehension and Street Enforcement Unit (C.A.S.E) had their hands full as they observed a GMC pickup truck speeding into the Seguin Police Department's parking lot shortly before 9:45 pm. The situation escalated when the vehicle quickly exited the lot, recklessly crossing a grassy embankment.
Seguin police officers immediately initiated a traffic stop, but the driver of the GMC pickup refused to comply, prompting a high-speed pursuit. The pursuit continued northbound until the vehicle reached the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office, where it struck two Seguin Police Department police units and several personal vehicles in a chaotic scene.
Despite the vehicular mayhem, law enforcement officers managed to apprehend the driver, identified as Jose Antonio Hernandez Mendez, a 48-year-old resident of Seguin. Following his arrest, Mendez was transported to the Guadalupe County Jail, where he faces a slew of charges, including Aggravated Assault Peace Officer - Serious Bodily Injury, Aggravated Assault Peace Officer, Intoxication Assault Serious Bodily Injury - Emergency Worker, Evading Arrest Motor Vehicle, and Evading Arrest on Foot.
One Seguin Police Department officer was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation, where he was later released. No other injuries were reported during this incident.
