The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is offering an opportunity for residents to gain insight into the workings of law enforcement through the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy. The 13-week program, slated to run from October to December 2023, will take place every Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Participants in the academy will have the chance to delve into the daily operations of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, exploring its various components and departments. Led by Sheriff Javier Salazar and deputies from the Sheriff's Community Oriented Response & Education Unit (SCORE), the academy promises an informative and hands-on experience.
The curriculum will cover a wide array of topics, including Detention Operations, Criminal Investigation, Evidence handling, Special Operations, Crisis Negotiation, Community Service, Patrol Tactics, and Traffic Operations. Attendees can expect guided tours of essential facilities, such as the Bexar Metropolitan 911 Regional Operations Center (Dispatch), Bexar County Jail, and the Bexar County Justice Center and Courthouse.
This initiative aims to foster a better understanding between the community and law enforcement, allowing citizens to engage with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in an educational and interactive setting.
