Brownsville Auto Theft Unit Apprehends Multiple Young Suspects in Vehicle Thefts

The Brownsville Police Department's Auto Theft Unit has successfully apprehended multiple individuals involved in a series of thefts targeting GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados in the city. These arrests span from August to the present day.

The suspects identified as Polette Puentes (28), Edmundo Barcenas (21), Kevin Trinh (19), Jorge Alejandro Solano (18), Bryan Daniel Cervantes (17), Yahir Gomez (17), Eric Jay Rodriguez (20), and Miguel Angel Cervantes (18) have been linked to multiple auto thefts within the city. Some of these individuals are connected to more than four theft incidents.

Dedicated Auto Theft Agents have been tirelessly working around the clock to recover stolen vehicles and apprehend those responsible. It is important to note that approximately 44% of stolen vehicles are not recovered, with thefts occurring in less than five minutes.

The public is urged to take precautionary measures to safeguard their vehicles. Residents are reminded to always lock their doors and park in well-lit areas. Additionally, the use of a steering wheel lock and installing a kill switch in the vehicle's electronic system is recommended for enhanced security.
