A tragic incident unfolded on the evening of September 1, 2023, at approximately 8:25 PM when Victoria Police Department officers responded to a collision at the intersection of E. River St. and S. Navarro St. The accident involved a 15-year-old pedestrian and a vehicle, resulting in the loss of a young life.
According to the investigation conducted by authorities, the teenager, identified as Darian Strelow, was crossing the intersection in a westbound direction when he failed to yield the right of way to a northbound vehicle driven by 43-year-old Rodney Burton. The collision between the teenager and the vehicle had devastating consequences.
Emergency medical services promptly arrived at the scene, transporting Darian Strelow to a local hospital. Subsequently, he was transferred to an out-of-town hospital in critical condition. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the young pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.
