Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident on I-35 Frontage Road Claims Life of San Marcos Man

On Monday, September 4, at approximately 5 p.m., the Kyle Police Department responded to reports of a welfare concern in the 23000 block of Interstate Highway 35. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Lamar Shane Garwood, a 57-year-old resident of San Marcos, lying in the grassy median.

Garwood had sustained extensive injuries, and initial findings indicate that he was walking along the I-35 frontage road when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The vehicle involved in the incident is believed to have continued southward toward San Marcos without stopping to render aid.

Investigators working on the case have identified the suspect vehicle as a white sedan, which is expected to have damage to the driver's side bumper and head/fog light.

This is an ongoing investigation and Police are asking residents that may have any information to please contact the Kyle Police Department Sergeant Keith Congdon at 512-201-4385 or email kcongdon@cityofkyle.com or submit a tip anonymously to the Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-TIPS (8477), online at callcrimestoppers.com, or by using the P3 Tips app on your smartphone.
