In an effort to address the rising incidents of water system thefts and tampering with city water meters, the Uvalde Utility Office, Uvalde Code Enforcement, and Uvalde Police Department convened a crucial meeting on Tuesday.
During the meeting, officials discussed strategies to curb the increasing occurrences of concealing, damaging, or attaching unauthorized devices to the main water supply. Such actions directly contravene city ordinance 13.04.100, which pertains to the concealment of valves, services, or meter boxes, and ordinance 13.16.110, addressing the theft of service.
Authorities underscored that violations of these ordinances are considered class C misdemeanors. Those found guilty of such violations could face fines for each day a violation persists. The City of Uvalde expressed its firm commitment to implementing necessary enforcement actions for any breach of these city ordinances.
Residents and stakeholders are urged to be mindful of the regulations in place and to report any suspicious activity related to the city's water supply.
