LAKEHILLS, Texas - Multiple animals were seized from a wildlife sanctuary in Bandera County on Friday morning after authorities executed search and seizure warrants at the property, according to Bandera County Sheriff Josh Teitge.

The Bandera County Sheriff's Office assisted Precinct 2 Constable Greg Spengler with the operation at We Care Wildlife Sanctuary in the 7600 block of Park Road 37 in Lakehills around 7 a.m. Sept. 4.

Representatives from the American Humane Society and San Antonio Zoo joined veterinarians and livestock specialists at the sanctuary to examine the animals and evaluate their living conditions.

Following the medical assessments, authorities seized multiple animals and transported them to other locations for additional treatment and testing.

Officials did not disclose how many animals were removed, what species were involved or what conditions prompted authorities to obtain the warrants.

According to their social media page, We Care Wildlife Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide animals a home.

Spengler is leading the investigation, with the Bandera County Sheriff's Office assisting.
