BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - A 38-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday evening after authorities say he opened fire during a domestic disturbance in northeast Bexar County.

Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies responded at approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 to a reported shooting in the 7400 block of Kitty Hawk Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a 38-year-old man inside a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Deputies and emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident began as a disturbance at the residence. Investigators said a woman fled the home and sought refuge at a nearby residence.

Authorities believe the deceased man then exited the residence and opened fire at or near the woman as she attempted to escape.

A second man who was at the nearby residence came outside and returned fire, striking the alleged gunman.

After the exchange of gunfire, the second man left the area in a black SUV before law enforcement arrived.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said investigators are still in the early stages of the investigation and are working to determine whether any criminal offenses were committed.

No arrests have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
