SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A 22-year-old man was arrested after deputies responding to a disturbance found him intoxicated, allegedly assaulted a woman and injured a Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputy while resisting arrest.
The incident occurred on Aug. 2 after deputies responded to reports of a woman calling for help from inside a vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they contacted Joab Abisal Navarrete, 22, who authorities said displayed clear signs of intoxication while operating the vehicle.
As deputies attempted to detain him, Navarrete became combative and resisted arrest. During the struggle, one deputy suffered a dislocated thumb, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said Navarrete also attempted to strike deputies before he was eventually taken into custody.
The investigation further revealed that Navarrete had allegedly assaulted a woman before deputies arrived.
Witnesses told investigators they saw the victim on the hood of Navarrete's vehicle before she fell as he drove away.
Navarrete was booked on charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, assault on a peace officer and driving while intoxicated.
The investigation remains ongoing.
