BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - A 47-year-old man has been arrested after deputies say he repeatedly beat his two-year-old French Bulldog, left the injured dog outside for hours and later buried it in his backyard after it died.
Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies responded at approximately 4:10 p.m. on July 30 to the 11200 block of Amberina in the Medina Valley area after receiving a report of animal cruelty.
According to investigators, the caller reported that a man had killed a dog by repeatedly striking it before burying the animal.
Deputies spoke with a witness who identified the suspect as 47-year-old Erik Estrada.
The investigation determined that on July 29, Estrada was involved in a disturbance when he allegedly became enraged and repeatedly struck his two-year-old French Bulldog in the head.
Authorities said Estrada then left the severely injured dog outside for several hours.
The dog's condition rapidly worsened, and it died early the following morning from its injuries, according to investigators.
After the dog died, Estrada allegedly buried the animal in his backyard, where investigators later recovered its remains.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone who witnesses or suspects animal cruelty to report it to the Bexar County Animal Crime Enforcement Unit by emailing ACE@bexar.org or calling 210-335-6000.
The investigation remains ongoing.
