SEGUIN, Texas - Two Katy residents have been arrested after a 26-year-old woman told police she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted before escaping and seeking help in Seguin, authorities said.
Officers with the Seguin Police Department responded at approximately 12:47 a.m. on July 29 to the 1600 block of State Highway 123 Bypass after receiving a welfare concern involving a woman who was yelling for help.
Officers located the woman at a nearby residence, where she reported she had been kidnapped from the Katy area and sexually assaulted by two individuals.
During the investigation, officers located the two suspects nearby and identified them as 26-year-old Brian Cameron Smith and 25-year-old Haiyan Jayd Lee. Police said they were from Katy, but their jail records show Richmond.
Smith and Lee were each charged with aggravated sexual assault and trafficking of a person.
Both suspects were transported to the Guadalupe County Jail, where each was held on $1 million bond for each charge.
Seguin police said the investigation remains active.
Authorities also reminded the public that human trafficking can occur in any community. Warning signs may include a person who appears fearful or controlled, cannot speak freely, does not possess their own identification or money, or is unable to leave their situation.
