Body of Missing Driver Recovered From Floodwaters North of Uvalde

UVALDE COUNTY, Texas - Authorities have recovered the body of a 74-year-old man whose vehicle was found submerged in floodwaters north of Uvalde on Thursday morning.

According to officials, the discovery was made at approximately 10:30 a.m. when the Texas Department of Public Safety Air Unit 108 notified Uvalde Police Department's Incident Command that crew members had spotted the taillights and reverse lights of a vehicle bobbing in floodwater.

The vehicle was located about four miles north of Uvalde near the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 North and County Road 400.

A Texas Department of Public Safety boat team reached the vehicle and confirmed that the lone occupant, a 74-year-old man, was deceased.

Authorities said the victim's family lives outside of Texas.

Investigators reported the man had disregarded law enforcement warnings advising motorists not to travel on the flooded roadway before becoming stranded.

Uvalde County Sheriff Ruben Nolasco and the Uvalde County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the incident.

Additional information will be released by the sheriff's office as it becomes available.
