SAN ANTONIO, Texas. A 51-year-old woman has been charged with animal cruelty after Bexar County deputies found a dog with its muzzle taped shut inside a crate, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 9:24 a.m. on July 9 to the 11700 block of Culebra Road on the far west side of San Antonio after receiving a report of a dog whose mouth had been taped shut.

When deputies arrived, they found a small dog inside a crate with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle. The dog was safely removed and was found to be in stable condition.

Following an investigation, deputies determined the 51-year-old woman was responsible for placing the dog in what investigators described as a situation of senseless endangerment and potential injury.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office Animal Crimes Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and executed a seizure warrant.

Authorities removed the victimized dog, along with a second dog found on the property. Both animals were taken into the custody of Bexar County Animal Control.

Kenyatta Smith was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
