Child Drowns at Boerne City Lake After Struggling in Water


BOERNE, Texas — A child drowned Sunday evening at Boerne City Lake after disappearing beneath the water while swimming, according to the Boerne Fire Department.

Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call just before 6:30 p.m. on June 28 reporting that a child had gone underwater and did not resurface.

According to witnesses, two children were in the water when both began struggling.

A bystander entered the water and was able to rescue one of the children. The individual then attempted to rescue the second child but was unable to locate them beneath the surface.

The Boerne Fire Department Water Rescue Team responded to the scene along with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Boerne Police Department, Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department, Kendall County Sheriff's Office, and Kendall County EMS.

Authorities investigated the incident and closed Boerne City Lake for the remainder of the day to allow emergency personnel to safely conduct search and investigative operations.

The incident remains under investigation. Officials have not released the identity of the child.
