Del Rio Police Officer Arrested on Aggravated Assault Charge Following 2025 Motorcycle Crash

Homer Perez

DEL RIO, Texas — An off-duty Del Rio police officer has been arrested after a grand jury indicted him in connection with a motorcycle crash that seriously injured his passenger last year.

According to the Del Rio Police Department, Officer Homer Perez was arrested June 25 on a charge of Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred at approximately 2:37 a.m. on Sept. 27, 2025, when Perez was riding his personal 2020 Ducati motorcycle on Spur 239 in Del Rio with an adult female passenger.

Investigators allege Perez accelerated the motorcycle recklessly, causing a sudden change in motion that left the passenger unable to maintain her seat. She fell from the motorcycle onto the roadway, suffering serious injuries.

A passing motorist witnessed the incident, stopped to assist the woman, and transported her to Val Verde Regional Medical Center because of the severity of her injuries.

Perez arrived at the hospital a short time later and provided investigators with information about the incident.

The woman was later transferred to a medical facility in San Antonio, where she underwent extensive treatment for her injuries.

The Del Rio Police Department's Internal Affairs Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Ranger Division conducted a joint investigation into the crash.

The case was presented to a Val Verde County grand jury on June 12, 2026.

On June 25, an arrest warrant was issued charging Perez with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Later that evening, Perez was arrested without incident while working a modified-duty assignment at the Del Rio Police Department. He was transported to the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistrate process.

The investigation remains ongoing.
