Atascosa County Man Sentenced to 17 Years in Prison for Role in 2024 Pleasanton Shooting

Jack Dylan Martinez

PLEASANTON, Texas — An Atascosa County jury has sentenced a 24-year-old man to 17 years in prison for his role in a shooting that left a victim with a permanent hand injury outside a Pleasanton party in 2024.

On June 17, 2026, a jury found Jack Dylan Martinez guilty and assessed punishment at 17 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for his involvement in the March 3, 2024, shooting on North Water Street.

According to evidence presented during trial, Martinez was with two other armed individuals when they confronted two younger males outside a party at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Prosecutors said testimony from the victim and an eyewitness established that all three suspects were armed, including one with a shotgun, another with a rifle and a third carrying a handgun.

During the confrontation, one victim was shot in the back and hand with a shotgun. The injuries were severe enough that the victim lost a portion of his hand.

Officers with the Pleasanton Police Department quickly responded to the scene, identified suspects and arrested Martinez along with the two other individuals involved. All three were charged as parties to the offense.

Investigators recovered five spent shotgun shells from the crime scene.

Although Martinez was not identified as the individual who fired the shotgun, prosecutors argued that he actively participated in the confrontation that led to the shooting. Martinez admitted he was part of the group but denied possessing a firearm.

The trial began on June 15 and concluded with the jury returning a guilty verdict before sentencing Martinez to 17 years in prison.

In a statement following the conviction, prosecutors said the case demonstrates that individuals who participate in violent criminal acts can be held accountable for the consequences, even if they are not the person who pulls the trigger.

The 81st Judicial District Attorney's Office credited the investigation conducted by the Pleasanton Police Department and the efforts of first responders and prosecutors for securing the conviction.

Authorities specifically recognized Lt. Jordan Haren, Detectives Chris Trevino and Amelia Garza, Sgt. Adrian Limon and Atascosa County EMS Paramedic Francisco Maldonado for their roles in the case.

Assistant District Attorneys Scott Simpson and Kenny Lam prosecuted the case.

The two other defendants charged in connection with the shooting were not identified in the announcement.
