COMAL COUNTY, Texas — A Canyon Lake woman with multiple prior felony drug convictions has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to methamphetamine possession, evidence tampering and bail jumping charges.
Angel Yvette Halliburton, 57, pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, More Than 4 Grams but Less Than 200 Grams, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Judge Bruce Boyer of the 22nd District Court sentenced Halliburton to 25 years in prison for each offense.
The plea agreement also included two counts of Bail Jumping-Failure to Appear after Halliburton failed to appear in court on the pending drug possession and tampering charges. She received 25-year prison sentences on each of those counts as well.
According to prosecutors, Halliburton was sentenced as a habitual felony offender due to prior felony drug convictions in Atascosa and Bexar counties, for which she previously served prison sentences of two and three years.
The case stems from a traffic stop conducted by deputies with the Comal County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 19, 2023, along FM 3159 near Cranes Mill Road.
During the stop, deputies discovered the driver had active warrants and detained him. Authorities said Halliburton, who was a passenger at the time, denied there were any drugs or weapons in the vehicle but acknowledged she had previously been incarcerated on weapons-related charges.
A narcotics detection K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs, prompting deputies to conduct a search.
Investigators discovered a concealed plastic bag hidden inside Halliburton's pants containing approximately 27.85 grams of methamphetamine.
According to court records, Halliburton admitted the substance was methamphetamine and told deputies she hid it because she believed the vehicle would likely be searched due to her criminal history.
She also told investigators that the vehicle belonged to her and that she had switched places with the driver earlier.
The case was investigated by the Comal County Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cody Kent on behalf of the State of Texas.
