SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A Bexar County judge sentenced a San Antonio man to 35 years in prison after a jury convicted him of breaking into a woman's home and sexually assaulting her.
On April 10, 2026, a Bexar County jury found Sadaqat Abbasi guilty of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual assault and two counts of sexual assault. Judge Kristina Escalona of the 186th District Court later sentenced Abbasi to 35 years in prison for the burglary conviction and the maximum sentence of 20 years for each sexual assault conviction.
According to prosecutors, the victim began communicating with Abbasi in November 2023 after viewing an online dating profile that he had created and managed. Investigators determined the profile was entirely fictitious and used by Abbasi to gain personal information about the victim, including her home address.
On the night of Nov. 19, 2023, prosecutors said Abbasi unlawfully entered the victim's residence and forced his way into her bedroom. He then held her down and sexually assaulted her. The attack ended when the victim was able to push Abbasi away, allowing him to flee.
The case remained unsolved until several months later when a DNA match through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) linked Abbasi to the assault. Investigators also connected him to two other previously unsolved sexual assault cases.
In March 2025, Texas Rangers arrested Abbasi, also known as "Mike" Abbasi, in Comal County, where he was facing multiple sexual assault allegations. Authorities said their investigation uncovered assaults that occurred in Bexar and Travis counties between 2016 and 2023.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Brittany Mitchell and Daniel Peña of the Family Violence Division prosecuted the case with assistance from Victim Advocate Marina Winter and Investigator Yvette Guerrero.
“This sentence reflects the serious and lasting harm caused by these crimes,” Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “I want to thank the survivor for their courage in coming forward, as well as the prosecutors, investigators, victim advocates, and law enforcement agencies who worked tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable. Our office remains committed to seeking justice for victims of sexual violence.”
Abbasi will serve 35 years in prison on the burglary conviction and 20 years on each sexual assault conviction as ordered by the court.
