Teen Arrested for Allegedly Plotting Copycat Attack Following Uvalde School Shooting

Nathan James Cruz

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office apprehended Nathan James Cruz, a 17-year-old teenager and cousin to Salvador Ramos, the perpetrator of the tragic 2022 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Authorities acted swiftly to prevent a potential disaster, as Cruz had reportedly been planning to carry out a copycat attack reminiscent of his cousin's heinous act.

Cruz's intentions were thwarted as he attempted to purchase an AR-15 rifle with alarming intentions mirroring those of his cousin. His alleged plan, which bore a haunting resemblance to the 2022 shooting, sent shockwaves through the community and prompted swift action by law enforcement.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office, well-aware of the potential danger posed by Cruz's intentions, took him into custody before his plans could come to fruition. Cruz's arrest was made possible thanks to a tip-off from an unlikely source - his own mother, who courageously alerted authorities to her son's troubling behavior and threats.

Upon Cruz's arrest, he was immediately confined to the Bexar County jail, where he is currently being held on a substantial bond of $160,000. He faces charges of threatening to commit an act of violence causing serious bodily injury, as well as making a terroristic threat in a public place, inducing fear of serious harm. The severity of the charges reflects the gravity of his alleged intentions and their potential consequences.
