KERRVILLE, Texas — Chris McCall has announced his retirement as chief of the Kerrville Police Department following nearly 30 years in law enforcement.

According to the City of Kerrville, McCall’s retirement will take effect June 19, 2026.

McCall has served as Kerrville’s police chief since 2020 after previously serving as police chief in Hobbs, New Mexico. Officials noted he had also retired from the Hobbs Police Department in February 2019 before later joining the Kerrville department.

During his tenure in Kerrville, McCall oversaw several major public safety initiatives and emergency response operations.

City officials credited him with helping coordinate public safety efforts during the July 4 flooding event, working with local, regional, and state agencies during the emergency response.

McCall also led development of the city’s Public Safety Facility on Clearwater Paseo, a project aimed at improving operational readiness and supporting future public safety needs.

In 2024, he helped coordinate planning for the total solar eclipse event that brought increased tourism and visitors to Kerrville and the Texas Hill Country.

Under McCall’s leadership, the police department also expanded its technology and operational capabilities, including implementing body-worn cameras, upgraded radio systems, department-wide TASER deployment, a K-9 program, a drone program, updated patrol vehicles, and enhanced in-house training.

Dalton Rice praised McCall’s leadership, professionalism, and commitment to community partnerships.

McCall said serving the Kerrville community and working alongside department personnel had been one of the greatest honors of his career, adding that he was proud of the department’s cultural shift and “#Oneteam” approach.

City officials said transition planning is already underway and information regarding interim leadership and the search for a new police chief will be announced later.
