SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A teacher and coach at John Jay High School has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged improper relationship with a student, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities said 38-year-old Chad Allen Rodriguez was arrested and charged with Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.

Rodriguez worked as a physics and astronomy teacher and coach at John Jay High School, which is part of the Northside Independent School District.

Police said the investigation began after another student reported seeing Rodriguez alone in a classroom with a 17-year-old female student on May 14.

According to investigators, the student later admitted to the relationship and told authorities it allegedly began with flirting in the classroom before escalating to kissing and sexual intercourse.

Police said Rodriguez and the student also exchanged phone numbers and allegedly sent explicit photos to one another.

Investigators reviewed school surveillance footage, which reportedly showed the student entering Rodriguez’s classroom alone and remaining inside for about 10 minutes. Authorities said the footage also captured another student looking through the classroom window, though no sexual activity was visible on video.

Officers responded to the school campus May 15 as part of the investigation, and Rodriguez was arrested off campus on May 16, according to officials.

The district said Rodriguez has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. NISD officials stated Rodriguez had been employed with the district since August 2016.

Rodriguez was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.

Investigators said there is reason to believe additional victims may exist.  If you believe you were a victium or know of anyone who could have been a victim, please contact the Special Victims Unit at (210) 207-2313.
