MEDINA COUNTY, Texas — The Medina County Commissioners Court has lifted the countywide burn ban effective May 4, allowing residents to resume outdoor burning under specific guidelines.

Officials said residents planning to burn brush must first contact the Medina County Sheriff’s Office to receive approval for the day. Callers will be asked to provide their name, address and phone number. Approved burns must be limited to piles no larger than 10 feet by 10 feet unless additional arrangements are made.

Authorities also reminded residents of several state regulations governing outdoor burning:

• Individuals are responsible for any damage or costs caused by their fire
• Burning is prohibited when wind speeds reach 20 mph or higher
• Burning is not allowed when humidity levels drop to 20% or lower
• Fires may only be started one hour after sunrise and must be fully extinguished one hour before sunset
• Fires must never be left unattended
• If smoke crosses a roadway, flaggers must be present to warn drivers
• Smoke is not allowed to travel within 300 feet into homes, animal enclosures or plant areas

Residents planning burns larger than the 10-by-10 limit are encouraged to contact county officials at 830-455-0129 for guidance.

County officials said the lifted ban reflects improved conditions but urged residents to remain cautious and follow all safety regulations.
