Uvalde Walmart Cleared After Bomb Threat Call Traced to California

UVALDE, Texas — Authorities say a reported threat targeting a local Walmart Sunday afternoon prompted a large law enforcement response before being determined not credible.

According to the Uvalde Police Department, dispatch received a call around 1:45 p.m. May 3 from a man claiming he was minutes away from the store and armed. A second call followed about six minutes later, stating he was one minute from arriving.

Officers responded immediately and, with assistance from the Southwest Texas Fusion Center, were able to trace the phone number to a location in California.

A unified incident command was established involving multiple agencies, including the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department, Uvalde County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Game Wardens and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Authorities conducted a full sweep of the store and surrounding parking lot. The scene was cleared at approximately 2:55 p.m., and after a brief reset by store management, the business reopened around 4 p.m.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and emphasized that anyone responsible for making the threat will be held accountable.
