VICTORIA, Texas — A 36-year-old man died after an officer-involved shooting during a traffic stop conducted by members of a federal task force Tuesday evening, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Linwood Drive and East Airline Road, where law enforcement agencies assisting the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force initiated a traffic stop.
Officials said the suspect, identified as George DeLaRosa of Victoria, failed to comply with commands and exited the vehicle while pointing a firearm toward officers. Law enforcement officers then discharged their weapons.
Authorities said no officers were injured during the encounter.
Officers immediately provided medical aid to DeLaRosa, who was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A female passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation into the shooting in accordance with standard protocol.
