Two Suspects Arrested Minutes After Vehicle Burglary in Buda

Matthew Brainard

BUDA, Texas — Two suspects were quickly taken into custody Friday morning after a reported vehicle burglary in downtown Buda, authorities said.

The incident occurred April 10, 2026, in the 300 block of South Main Street, where a vehicle owner reported seeing two individuals breaking into cars. Police said one suspect was inside the caller’s vehicle while the other acted as a lookout.

Buda Police officers arrived within four minutes of the call to dispatch. The suspects fled on foot but were quickly apprehended by officers. Authorities noted one of the suspects lost his shoes while running which helped officers catch him.

Police identified one of the suspects as 17-year-old Matthew Hayden Brainard of San Marcos. He was arrested and charged with burglary of vehicles, a Class A misdemeanor. A second suspect, a juvenile, was also taken into custody and transported to the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center.

Officials said Brainard remains in custody at the Hays County Jail, and no bond had been posted as of the latest update.

Police credited the reporting party for providing timely and accurate information that led to the quick arrests.

Authorities also reminded residents to secure their vehicles by locking doors, removing valuables, and hiding items that cannot be taken out.
