SCHERTZ, Texas — A search for a missing 32-year-old man has ended in tragedy after he was found deceased in a wooded area in Comal County, according to the Schertz Police Department.

John “Beau” Stein was reported missing on March 31, 2026. During the ongoing investigation, authorities requested assistance from multiple agencies, including Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR), the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Selma Police Department.

On April 1, Stein was located in a wooded area north of the 17,600 block of Lookout Road in Schertz. Officials confirmed he was deceased.

Next of kin have been notified. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional details have been released at this time.

“We extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. Stein,” the Schertz Police Department said, also expressing appreciation for the assisting agencies involved in the search efforts.
