Kerrville, TX — A traffic stop along Interstate 10 in Kerr County led to the seizure of marijuana, THC vape cartridges, a handgun and thousands of dollars in cash, according to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted the stop on March 3 near mile marker 485 on Interstate 10 close to Mountain Home after observing a vehicle violation.

During the stop, the investigator suspected additional criminal activity beyond the initial violation. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Kaden Alonzo Jones of San Angelo, refused consent to search the vehicle.

Kerr County K9 Castle was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of narcotics.

A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 26.55 pounds of marijuana and 4,000 grams of THC vape cartridges.

Investigators also recovered a loaded handgun and $7,455 in cash.

Jones was arrested and booked into the Kerr County Jail.

He faces charges including manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 of 400 grams or more, possession of marijuana between five and 50 pounds and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Authorities said bonds for the charges total $37,000. The suspect’s vehicle may also be subject to seizure due to its alleged use in drug trafficking.

Sheriff Larry Leitha said the case highlights the ongoing efforts of the department’s interdiction team to disrupt drug trafficking along major highways.

Officials noted that all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
