San Antonio, TX — A San Antonio man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison after a Bexar County jury found him guilty of murder and tampering with evidence in a fatal stabbing case.
Carl Mott was sentenced on March 6, 2026, by Judge Ron Rangel of the 379th District Court. A jury convicted Mott on January 30 following a trial in Bexar County.
According to prosecutors, the attack occurred in December 2024 at a bus stop on the northeast side of San Antonio.
Authorities said Mott encountered Michael Bowman and Bowman’s wife, Crystal Bowman, who had previously been involved in a long-standing extramarital relationship with Mott.
When the couple arrived at the bus stop, investigators said Mott approached Michael Bowman and stabbed him in the upper left shoulder with a knife.
Bowman attempted to seek help at a nearby restaurant but later died from his injuries.
Surveillance footage later showed Mott discarding the knife in bushes near his workplace about ten minutes after the attack.
Investigators relied on eyewitness testimony from Crystal Bowman and surveillance video to identify Mott as the suspect.
Police arrested Mott approximately 11 hours after the stabbing.
Officers with the San Antonio Police Department recovered the knife four days later.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Marjorie Hilmo and Mariela Encinas of the Family Violence Division with assistance from Victim Advocate Alexis Smith and Investigator Kyle Smith.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said the sentence holds the defendant accountable for a violent act driven by jealousy.
“This was a senseless act of violence fueled by jealousy that cost a man his life,” Gonzales said. “Today’s sentence ensures the defendant is held accountable and that justice is delivered for the victim and his family.”
