NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A 60-year-old woman was killed Monday evening after being struck by a dump truck in downtown New Braunfels, and the driver has been charged with criminally negligent homicide, authorities said.
New Braunfels Police and Fire departments responded at approximately 5:45 p.m. to the 200 block of North Seguin Avenue following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. First responders provided immediate lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian, identified as Stephanie Madzy, 60, of New Braunfels, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators determined that the driver, Jude T. Jones, 60, was operating a dump truck stopped at a red light at North Seguin Avenue and Mill Street. Police said Jones failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians while making a right turn, striking Madzy.
Jones was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital at his request before being detained, charged with criminally negligent homicide, and transferred to the Comal County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said additional charges may be pending.
