Two Arrested in New Braunfels Capital Murder Investigation After Teen Fatally Shot

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - Two suspects have been charged with capital murder following a deadly shooting Thursday evening in New Braunfels.

On February 19, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., New Braunfels Police and Fire departments responded to Saengerhalle Road after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Callers reported hearing several shots and seeing individuals flee from a residence.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers and first responders immediately began lifesaving measures, but the teen was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shortly afterward, investigators learned that an 18-year-old male had been dropped off at Resolute Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was later transferred to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he remains in critical condition.

Through interviews, video review, and the collection of evidence, investigators identified two primary suspects. Police say 18-year-old Jayce Cooper was identified as the shooter of the deceased teen. Authorities said Cooper was the individual who arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, which investigators believe he sustained during the altercation with the victim.

A 16-year-old suspect was also identified as being present and involved in the incident.

A warrant for capital murder was issued for Cooper. He remains in custody at University Hospital and is expected to be transferred to the Bexar County Jail upon his recovery. The 16-year-old suspect was detained, charged with capital murder, and transferred to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may be pending. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New Braunfels Police Department at 830-221-4100.
