KYLE, Texas — A man convicted of repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend and violating a protective order has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.
According to the Kyle Police Department, Andy Carty was found guilty on February 12 of continuous family violence, assault family violence impeding breath, burglary of a habitation, and violation of a protective order.
The convictions stem from two violent incidents in early 2023 involving Carty, his then-girlfriend, and their two children.
In January 2023, officers arrested Carty following an altercation in which he was charged with unlawful restraint, interference with 9-1-1, and assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Just weeks later, in February 2023, Carty was arrested again after breaking into the victim’s home. During that incident, investigators say he choked the victim and repeatedly struck her in the head with a 10-pound dumbbell. He faced charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault family violence impeding breath, injury to a child, interference with 9-1-1, burglary of a habitation, stalking, and multiple violations of a protective order.
Police commended the victim and children for their courage throughout the case and expressed appreciation for the work of officers, detectives, victim services personnel, and the Hays County District Attorney’s Office in securing the conviction.
