Quick Fire Response Saves La Coste Home After Early-Morning Blaze

LA COSTE, Texas - A fast response by Medina County fire crews prevented significant damage to a home following a structure fire early Sunday morning, January 25.

Just after 7 a.m., Medina County Fire was notified of a fire at a residence off FM 2790 in the City of La Coste. Engine 11 and Medic 11 arrived on scene within six minutes of dispatch, a response time made possible by the addition of full-time fire staffing in La Coste two weeks ago and a full-time EMS crew added last year.

Upon arrival, crews immediately stretched a hose line and extinguished a fire that had spread along an exterior wall of the home. Firefighters then conducted a thorough check of the structure and confirmed the fire had not extended into the interior of the residence.

Because of the rapid response and decisive action by crews, the home and its contents were saved. Station 11 was assisted by Ladder and Tender 10 from Castroville.

Fire officials credited recent improvements in emergency staffing and resources for the successful outcome, noting that the enhanced response capabilities were made possible through public support and continued funding decisions by local emergency services district boards.
