Bandera County Opens Warming Shelters Ahead of Subfreezing Temperatures

BANDERA COUNTY, Texas - The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office announced that warming shelters will be available this weekend as subfreezing temperatures are expected across the county.

Officials said the shelters are intended to provide a safe and warm place for residents in need during the cold weather. Two locations will be open beginning Friday afternoon.

Silver Sage, located at 803 Buck Creek in Bandera, will open at 3 p.m. Jan. 24 and remain available until 8 a.m. Jan. 26.

A second shelter will be available at Lakehills United Methodist Church, 150 Avenue J in Lakehills. That location will open at 3 p.m. Jan. 24 and is tentatively scheduled to remain open until noon on Jan. 26.

The sheriff’s office also urged residents who rely on oxygen to notify county dispatch ahead of the cold weather. Those individuals are asked to email dispatch@banderacounty.org with their name and address so critical information is available in the event of a power outage.

Authorities encouraged residents to share the information with anyone who may need shelter during the cold snap.

Additionally, the City of Bandera said that the public restrooms at the City Park and Heriatage Park will be temporarily closed to prevent pipes from freezing or breaking.  Resroom closure will begin Friday, January 23rd at 3:00 pm and will re-open Monday, January 26th at 8:00 am, weather permitting.
