WILSON COUNTY, TX - A Wilson County jury has sentenced Bernardo Rodriguez IV of Floresville to 10 years in prison after finding him guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting that left a man wounded.
Prosecutors said evidence at trial showed Rodriguez drove past the victim, stopped his vehicle, exited, and fired three rounds. One bullet struck the victim in the leg. Although the victim testified he did not know who shot him, three eyewitnesses told jurors they saw Rodriguez fire the gun.
The conviction followed an investigation by the Floresville Police Department, which the District Attorney’s Office credited for its work on the case. Officials specifically praised Officer Brian Zuniga for his role in the investigation.
“This verdict sends a clear message that violent gun crime will not be tolerated in Wilson County,” prosecutors said in a statement, noting the office’s commitment to pursuing accountability even when victims are unwilling or afraid to cooperate.
The District Attorney’s Office also thanked the three eyewitnesses who testified, calling their cooperation critical to the outcome. Prosecutors Lorena Whitney and Marc Ledet were commended for handling the case and securing the conviction despite challenges presented during trial.
