On December 17, 2025, Shandi DeHoyos was sentenced to 15 years in prison for tampering with the human remains of Minerva “Mickey” Rodriguez, stemming from a case that began in 2022.
In June 2022, law enforcement learned that DeHoyos was attempting to dispose of Rodriguez’s remains following her murder. A coordinated operation involving the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, Floresville Police Department, and Texas Rangers resulted in a traffic stop on Highway 181, where burned human bones were discovered in one of the vehicles.
DeHoyos initially denied any involvement but later admitted witnessing the murder and assisting in moving the remains. Investigators also obtained a recording in which she discussed moving, burying, and burning the body to conceal evidence.
On October 27, 2025, DeHoyos pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Following the presentation of evidence, including the traffic stop and recorded statements, a Karnes County jury returned guilty verdicts on both counts.
At sentencing, the State emphasized that DeHoyos’ actions deprived Rodriguez of dignity and denied her family closure. Judge Russell Wilson sentenced her to 15 years for tampering with evidence and 2 years for abuse of a corpse.
The District Attorney’s Office highlighted the gravity of attempting to conceal a violent crime and extended thanks to the team of law enforcement officers and prosecutors involved, including the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, and Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Wright and Leslie Carranza.
