The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department spent much of Tuesday responding to a series of natural gas–related emergencies across the city, starting just before 8 a.m. with a gasoline spill at a convenience store at Fourth and Main Street.
Roughly an hour later, at 9:08 a.m., crews were dispatched to a home in the 600 block of West Leona after residents reported a strong smell of gas inside. Minutes after clearing that call, firefighters were sent to another convenience store in the 2800 block of East Main, where a gas stove had ignited.
The busy day continued into the afternoon. At 2:12 p.m., firefighters responded to the 1200 block of West Main Street after construction workers struck an underground gas line. The final call came at 6:36 p.m., when crews investigated an outdoor gas odor near West Mesquite and Piper Lane.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department thanked neighboring first responders and the City of Uvalde Gas Department for assisting throughout the day.
