The Schertz Police Department has confirmed that an internal and criminal investigation is underway involving former officer Alberto De La Torre. On November 14, 2025, the department opened a report for Sexual Assault and Official Oppression, naming De La Torre as the alleged suspect.

De La Torre, who joined the department on September 28, 2020 and served as a K-9 officer, was terminated on November 18 following a sustained complaint related to truthfulness. Officials emphasized that all individuals involved are entitled to the presumption of innocence as the investigative and judicial process moves forward.

Police Chief James Lowery said the department is committed to balancing officers’ rights with its responsibility to protect the public and maintain trust, stating, “Officers’ rights are important, but so is protecting the public we took an oath to serve and preserving the integrity and public trust of our organization.”

The Texas Rangers have taken over as the lead investigative agency. The case remains open and active.
