Zapata ISD Police Officer Arrested on Felony Stalking Charge After Alleged Assault

Jorge Luis Dovalina Jr.

A Zapata ISD police officer is facing a felony charge after an incident that began in Zapata and continued into Laredo, according to investigators.

Authorities say 45-year-old Jorge Luis Dovalina Jr. was arrested on Saturday, November 15, after a woman reported that he assaulted her and then followed her in a red Ford F-250 bearing “Police” decals. The victim’s family contacted law enforcement, and during the incident a DPS trooper stopped the woman on U.S. 83 for speeding at 90 miles per hour. The trooper found her visibly upset, and she told him she had just been assaulted in Zapata.

While the trooper was on scene, Dovalina returned and was taken into custody. He is charged with third-degree felony stalking. The woman provided additional details about the alleged assault and the pursuit leading up to the traffic stop.

The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office and Texas DPS are continuing the investigation.
